for that recall.they said it would take about 20mins.
no problem.i`ll just wait.
well, about 45 minutes go by,and the service person come in the waiting room.
we`ve got a problem mr.*insert my last name here*
the flash wouldnt take.everytime they would flash,it would come back "flash failed"
so i could leave it there,or bring it back the next morning.
since i had a bit of running to do,and was already running late,i said i`ll bring it back.
they told me it would be alright to drive.
so,i get going down the road, all the warning lights are, like they said.no problem.
except,my speedometer doesnt work.

fast forward to bout 45 minutes ago......

i go to the dealer ship to pick up my vehical.
well,i get there and my vehical isnt done.i`m kind of like wtf is going on.
the service person come up to me and said"mr.*insert my last name here*we`ve got a problem"
i`m like"now what"
some part is broke and they need to order a new one.
no problem.it`s not costing me anything
the part should be in about 3-4 days.
not a problem.give me my vehical,so i get get out of here.
well,heres the problem.....
they called Chrystler, and they told the dealership not to let me take my vehical cuz the traction control, speedometer and a bunch of other bs doesnt
work.
so basicly, for now,i have no vehical for the next week.
my dealership doesnt have any rentals.
they said call chrystler to see if they would reimburse me for getting a rental.
so,i gotta give the corp. a call and see what they all have to say.
then call around and see if any other dealerships in my area do rentals.
i should have just stayed in bed today
:end rant:

oh my gosh...now I am scared to ever bring mine in for the recall...

Sounds like someone tripped over the power cord mid-flash and bricked your computer.

Raise hell to corporate to get that rental paid for!

It's a recall. Even if they don't normally offer rentals/loaners they should in this case. Then they could just charge it back to Chrysler as a warranty charge of some sort.

Find out who the zone service manager is and call him (her)...ash the dealer service manager to call if you need to and wait for them. Do you have an enerprise nearby? DCX still owns them I believe. Even if the dealer doesnt have any DRAC cars, they still have used cars or salesmans cars....

Do you have the 800 warranty number for service work....if you break down they come and tow you....tell em your broke down...and need a tow to the nearest dlr that can fix you....

Had mine done last week. Service manager told me that most flashes take, but some need re-calibration afterwards--Mine needed that also. He also said that a few need new computers, which they do not stock. If that were the case, I could drive it, but the ABS light would stay on until they replaced the part.

All-in-all, mine took 1 hour. I played in the showroom while I waited. :)

Sorry to hear of you bad experience, sounds like poor customer service by the service team. Its a shame the way dealers dont give a crap about the customers once they sell them the car, seems to me the cost of losing a customer isnt worth the price of a rental.Couldnt they have assisted in getting you to a local rental co?Luckily we havent had any problems with our dealership, but that could change.Good luck with yours.-43:D

It is all up to the dealer, mine just gives me a car off the lot. I am veyr happy with Ed Schmidt. they know how to treat their customers. I never worry about taking mine in which has only been twice for recalls.

if they are a five star dealer they have the ability to get up to 5 days covered on a 'good will' policy. It is true that Chrysler won't cover rentals on recalls, but dealers have the power to help their customers...in certain cases...it all goes towards their survey and fixed first visit score. If the service manager / director wont help ask for the district manager to get involved. it is also true that they won't stock that computer as they are vin specific..hope this helps...PS where in MI are you?

I am a technician at at a Jeep Dealer. I ran into the same promblem doing the G-40 recall. When doing the flash on the abs module it comes up flash failed. The way I fixed the problem was to put a battery charger on the vehicle and tried it again. If the system voltage drops the slightest while doing any module flash on a can bus system this can cause errors flashing and sometimes render the module unusable. As far as the calibration issue on some jeeps after performing the recall. You just simply go into the misc functions on the star scan and perform the intialize ecu routine which is used to configure a new abs module and calibrate the g sensor. I have had to replace the abs module one time on a grand cherokee for this recall. That was 2 weeks ago. I have performed atleast 100 of these recalls myself and Im sure my shop has done well over 500. Only one case of having to replace the module.

after performing the recall flash, sometimes the esp, and traction control lights stay on. They set a code in the abs module for Calibration mismatch. You have to go into the abs module with the star scan and perform the initial ecu routine to recalibrate the module. This basically resets the steering angle sensor and the g sensor for the traction control system.

Get Chrysler involved and find out the zone manager. It is amazing how fast things can happen that way. I went from a dealership telling me they refuse to work on my jeep to what can we do for you and we will have a rental car waiting. So sometimes you have to be direct to get things done.

update:
i still dont have my commander.
they got the new part in,and still had problems.
so they called the corp.and theyre going to send a new part with updated software?
so hopefully,i`ll have my vehical back tommorrow.thats what theyre pushing for.
it`s been over 2 weeks now.and realy,i`m not impressed one bit.
the service manager said this is happening all over the states?
im almost starting to think,im might start going to a different dealership for now on.the people that work there are realy nice and what not.but,i just dunno....im just still very irritated.
another thing, when it comes to situations like this, why dont they over night the parts?!?
dont make any sense.
but,i did get the loaner worked out.well,somewhat.
i was in the market for a beater winter truck to hook up a plow.found a decent one right in my price range.gave a tune up and good to go.

hey i'd like to know if its possible with the stars can tool to reporgram the jeep for larger tires, so it'll correct the shift points and the speedo.

thanks

No, the Starscan tool contains a limited list of tires. They are all within an inch diameter of each other.

The AEV EGR module will allow you to reprogram to up to 35" tires.

Man thats really bad, I am sorry to hear that happened. I cant believe they did not give you some wheels. I am suprised that they told you that it is happening all over too. Have they been at all apologetic?
Nothing like that would ever happen at my dealer, you need to look elsewhere, find a 5 star dealer. When you buy possibly the nicest car on their lot you dont deserve that treatment. I had my XK in for the window reulator and the guy at the service desk went and got me a cup of coffee!
I did have one sortof bad instance at my dealer though. I took it in for an oil change and the guy at the service desk locked my keys in my car and tried to blame it on me!!! HA he locked the doors when he turned the key to check the mileage...I got a free oil change when he realized it was his fault. :) Kindof funny though I came back and my car was parked in the same spot as where i left it, Right in the middle of the service garage entry!
