Hi All,

First post to this forum, hope this is appropriate, and that I didn't miss a thread already started...

Just got a (used) 2006 Jeep Commander, 4.7L engine, QDII, with TowPackage IV, and am considering getting a pop-up camper; in particular, a Fleetwood Evolution II (made more for off-road/more rugged). Anyone have experience with this or something similar? How about towing in general?

Thx (and be gentle for the first timer!) :)

You should not have any problems towing. I tow a pop-up camper myself and it is a 17' Fleetwood Bayfront your mileage might drop to about 10mpg depending how much gear your carry.

Recently made at 1600 plus mile round trip towing 3000lbs. Vehicle pulled great, adv MPG 13.1 going down and 12.6 coming back. Only problem was when I got back I noticed hard shifts from 2nd to 3rd. It was bad enough for me to take it in to the dealer. Tech drove the vehcle with me in it (did not want to hear "couldn't recreate problem") and I told him about towing. He smiled and told me it was a simple fix, disconnect the battery. He advised the trans had learned to shift pulling the trailer. He hooked it to the starscan and reset the memory...no problems ever since.

i have a 3.7 v6 with QT1 and pull a pop up camper and pull a fishing boat. I never have any issues towing anything. even with out lOW 4wd, i still never have issues on even the steepest boat ramps. I also have pulled my boat, loaded with gear and firewood, all weighing a couple thousand pound on the interstate, setting the cruise at 82, and never having a bit of issue. I think i got about 15-16 mpg at that speed with that load for about 300 miles.

Thanks for all the replys! I'm in Tucson (actually, Oro Valley) AZ. It's a 4.7L 4X4 (GVWR says 6400#). Took 'the plunge' today and will get a Fleetwood Evolution II (has large tires/high clearance suspension, front deck for a quad and/or extra gear, etc.). Looking forward to testing both out soon (the Commander and the camper).
