Two quick things
1. I think I have the qd2 4wd. Badge below shifter. I changed my tc fluid and used ATF4. THat is what my manual called for bug I have seen posts saying to use a special mopar fluid. The fluid that came out was amber in Color.... I am scared I used the wrong fluid....

2. There is a severe clunky going from drive to reverse and vice versa. I can recreate it by keeping my foot on the brake and shifting between the two. The transmission seems to shift fine but there is a slight whine while driving that goes away when coasting downhill......any thoughts or opinions. I know I probably need to get it to a transmission shop but I have a baby on the way and thought I was buying the vehicle from a reputable dealer.

1. QDII & QTII requires the Mopar fluid that's dealer only. QT1 is the system that uses ATF for the t-case.

2. Check your AT fluid level with the dipstick in the engine compartment. Make sure that its at the right level. If not, SLOWLY add some until it comes up to the right level.

I'm sorry I forgot to say that I did check the attn fluid a week ago when I bought it. Maybe I made a mistake I will doublecheck in the morning. Seemed fine then and still red didn't smell burnt. Might as well drop the pan and change it better safe then sorry. When I did the rear diff there was a noticeable buildup of fine metal on the magnet in the bottom. I dont think the cover had been off. Btw is the plug seriously just a piece of plastic popped in? Just curious why my owners manual would say atf+4 on the transfer case(I could also swear that it is the same transfer case that is in my Rammed truck)....

Yes, the plug is just plastic/rubbery, almost designed to be destroyed and replaced when you do the fluid. You have to be careful with the manual so that you're matching everything up with the proper drive system.

What year and engine do you have?

The clunking from reverse to drive is more than likely the front differential bushings. There are 3 and it only took one of mine to be bad to cause that clunking when shifting. Basically the applied torque from the transfer case causes the diff to shift positions and gets limited by the bushing, since the bushing is bad it bangs instead of being absorbed.

YOU SHOULD BE SCARED! The QDII takes the special Mopar TC fluid not ATF4+.

DO NOT drive it anymore until you get it filled properly!

It is an 06 limited 5.7L 4x4. Has the badge below the shifter. I left the jeep at home because I was worried about the transfer case issue. We are in Charleston Sc right now to give birth. The owners manual only listed atf4 as the transfer case fluid. It did not list different trims or options. I will check the bushings and the serial number on the transfer case when I get home.

Here's the page out of the 2006 owner manual. You need to get that ATF out of your transfer case!!!!

Ok.......am I going crazy here.....my manual for a 2006 LTD says atf+4. It is quadradrive II.....

I am so confused!? I swear my manual only lists aft+4 for the transfer case..... Everyone is telling me that it is supposed to be the molar fluid. I called a dealership and they told me attn+4(to be honest I don't think they guy I was talking to actually looked it up)

The single speed transfer case is entirely different in operation than your NV-247 two speed case.
As a result, a high sheer capacity fluid is required for the two speed case (yours is)
The single speed unit only requires ATF.

Although your owners manual may be an early print or some other reason the NV-247 fluid is not specified, the real bible is the service manual.
It specifies the Mopar synthetic transfer case oil for the NV-247.

Do get this changed to protect your investment.

It appears you have found several dealers that don't read or, take the time to read.
But remember, this info is being given to you by service writers and the parts dept. neither of which, in general, would know there is a difference.

If one of them would ask one of the mechanics, you would likely have gotten a different answer.

Thanks for help. I'll change it tomorrow. DOH! I knew I shoulda looked this up but I just assumed that someone used the wrong fluid. I did doublecheck the manual.....it would figure the manual had a misprint/jeep switched fluids!

You'll get a definitive answer by getting under the truck and checking which transfer case you have. Mine has a tag riveted to it that clearly identifies the model and manufacturer. Have a look and put in the appropriate fluid.
