I can't seem to get clarification via google and have searched this forum. The Jeep Commanders 2 speed transfer case is always referred to N(V)245 and it appears the Jeep Cherokees 2 speed transfer case is referred to N(P)245. My issue is that I thought The 05-10 Cherokee and Commanders 2 speed transfer cases were the same? I am looking to replace my transfer case chain due to a speed dependent knock/clunk noticeable at lower speeds while accelerating (different post) and after research it appears that Crown makes a oem chain with the same number (5161964AA), but when I look up the Borgewarner it only lists NP245 and Cherokees. Are these the same transfer cases and people just miss type NV and NP or are they different and in what way?

The transfer cases should be identical. The manufacturers New Process Gear and New Venture gear were separate companies under Chrysler and GM, but they merged in the 90s. There are a number of transfer cases that exist that are designated either as NP or NV in regards to which plant they were manufactured in, but the transfer case design is exactly the same.

If we are talking about the Grand Cherokee WK, then yes, they are the same....NP - New Process, NV - New Venture..... same .
