I am going to have StoneSoupMetalWorks make me some front end tube fenders, anyone else interested in a pair?

These are not his but a idea of where I am heading:

I run BTF tube fenders and soon Rokmen Hilines (just need to install them) on my TJ and they're worth their weight in gold. I can imagine that for you commander guys could really use them. My only concern is the strength of the area they mount to. You don't want to slide sideways into a rock and have the tube fender push sheet metal in. You might want to get a bit more crazy with it and build bumpers, rockers, and tube fenders. Then tie the fenders into the bumpers and rockers and solidly anchor everything. Might as well do a little tasteful cutting while you're at it. If you need tube, then might as well build over kill.

You could also use tube fenders to gain more tire clearance for bigger tires. Bigger tires are always more fun right?

I will have a little of this going on, I too an concerned with the lack of structure behind the fenders but really have no intention of sliding my fenders down any rocks. I am not sure there is a way to tie the fenders into the bumper but they might make it down to the sliders.

Too bad your limit on tire size is the rear fender well. Any plans on cutting and upsizing? (Or just planning on driving straight?)

No cutting planned for my rig, I will leave that to the other guy!

I'm looking forward to some pictures of this, I always thought these XK's could pull that look off easily!

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. Tying it all together like so and then cutting all the body below the tube fender in the wheel wells for more clearance. You'd never know. It would be like cutting the body under a set of stretch corners on a TJ if you get what I mean. You'd be able to run much bigger tires and it would look good if you took your time and though out how you ran everything. It should provide a good amount of body protection. Hell, if you get really adventurous you could do what the XJ guys do and cut out the rockers and then build your rocker guard into where the rocker used to be. It looks really good. They even go so far as to cut the bottoms of the doors off to get even more rocker clearance. It still looks really good as long as you take your time and do it right. You'd also have to figure out how to make the rear door work if you decided to put the flare on the door, which would give you more clearance. I have a couple ideas, but they're hard to explain.

If you're having a shop build you tube fenders to protect your investment and it really sees trails where you could do a fair amount of damage, then I'd go all out and build yourself some pretty hardcore body protection. Have the shop doing the cutting and fabbing on your rig so that you know it will turn out looking like it rolled off the assembly line like that if you don't think you're capable of turning out that kind of work yourself. I'm not saying you cant by any means though. If you're doing it for looks then its probably more work and money than its worth. Not to mention, if you don't go all the way as far as coming up with a system to support the fender you may end up with more head aches after a minor trail mishap.

This is just all speculation. I think the idea is cool. I figured I'd add a little food for thought. My view points are probably a bit over built and over the top for the average person though.
