I remember way back someone telling me if you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, but you never engage it, you could loose the ability.

Is that true of older Jeeps or all Jeeps? Or all 4x4's for that matter.

My sister-in-law has a Grand Cherokee that is 4x4 but she only uses it if there is snow on the ground. I'm not sure what year hers is.

You need to kick it into low if you have a FT 4wd or 4wd if you have lockouts periodically to assure continuous free flow and lubrication of all 4wd parts.

Your handbook reccomends against driving in 4L on hard surfaces for any extended period time as it places undue wear on joints and gearing.

You can drive in 4L on any flat surface provided you do not turn the wheels. I drive mine once in a while to just rotate the 4L gears for 0.1 mile straight line no turns!

Well, even a dirt road would be sufficient IMHO to allow use of 4WD LOW. Just remember your speed should be VERY SLOW. john
