Hello,
it is possible to fit the Vortech S/C that is designed for the 6.1 on our 5.7??
Has anybody done this before?

I have a cherokee 6.1 with the vortech on it and this is kind of a tricky answer.

Could it be done? Yes, but then again anything can be done. If you wanted to s/c your 5.7 vortech offers an s/c for the 5.7 on the lx platform and that would probably be an easier path to take. Youre still going to run into issues with A.) tuning B.) Bracketry C.) intake routing the wrong direction. To say the least its going to require some ingenuity.

The answer is yes it can be done........it's very expensive, your tuning options are limited (and most of the tuners out there suck), the pistons are very sensative to detonation, and your tranny is weak.

I would not consider it a viable option.........HOWEVER

You could take your heads, mill .30, do a basic valve job, use the 6.1 spring, change cam (about a 525/525 lift, 218/218 @ .05 on an 114 LSA), use a good intake, tune with a Predator, use the 6.1 headers and mid-pipe, and custom the back side........this should make 365 - 380 hp / 380 - 390 trq on the dyno.

Well what happend with this thread, any answer for the question?
I also want to buy the supercharger kit for the SRT8, and they if can send me the tune for the chargers o challengers hemi 5.7 that they sold i think it can work.

I already have the diablo trinity, so like i see the tune its trougth diablo sport, so i can load to my pcm, the file that they made for the charger 5.7 hemi, even the same year 2006.

I want to s/c my 4.7 im gonna look into a remote mount turbo though possibly. tuning is going to be the biggest issue I can see due to limited resources for ecu chips etc etc. but if it can be done with a S/c im all for that too. Im just worried about the tranny and my 93k engine holding out from the power boost

personally i wouldnt supercharge a motor with high miles on it like that, but that's just me. why would you wanna s/c your 4.7 anyhow? a good vortech with pro installation (especially considering the custom fab needed) would run an easy $6k, and probably much more. if you want more speed for your money get on craigslist and grab yourself a nice project nova, galaxie, or even a classic pickup, etc for $2500-$3k and use the difference to drop in a big block. least you dont have to deal with emissions, fuel injection systems, or endless malfunctioning sensors. that's what i'd do anyhow, but i'm very satisfied with the power of my 4.7

Nothing wrong with FI on an older motor as long as it has been well maintained throughout its life. Biggest issue I see is finding something that fits under our hood and someone that can tune the ECU for our tranny's. Probably will need larger fuel injectors, perhaps a larger fuel pump and a few other ancillary mods as well. I have been trying to eek out at least 300 HP out of my 4.7, but have gone as far as plug in mods will give me.

I installed a SC on my other vehicle. Main diff was that it was made for that vehicle with over 60,000 miles of testing before it went to market, proper ecu tune. I would stay as far away from a turbo as possible unless you are prepared to really get into the guts of the ECU and mechanics (or if someone has a pre-programmed flash).

Thinking now a modified cam and perhaps some headers (if you can find em) might do the trick. A bit too much for me to take on now, but think its possible.

Strada - might want to check the Challenger or Charger forums - have seen a bunch of those with after market bolt on superchargers with the right flash on the 5.7's. If you want an opinion go with a twin screw over a centrifugal s/c if you can becuase it winds up immediately and will give you much more predictable power through the torque curve.

I have an aftermarket powerdyne supercharger on my 96 Bronco that I installed in 98 right around when the warranty ran out. It's been on from about 30,000mi to the current 170,000mi with no ill effects on the engine. Although the Bronco is beginning to rust the engine still works great.

I would like to take that unit and transfer it to the Commander someday. The big issues would be finding(or making) a mounting bracket and fuel management tuning. ATI makes a similar unit for the 5.7 that includes 39# injectors.... so that might be a start on the tuning. They also might have a bracket, but it would likely need modification to fit my sc. Besides for getting the proper injectors, the ecu might have to be further tuned for proper air/fuel mixture and shiftpoints. There are some aftermarket tuners that will allow personal modification of the shift points, but I'm not sure about the air/fuel ratio. also would require air flow plumbing but I imaging that would be fairly minor.

The S/C make a huge difference to the otherwise stock 5.0 in the Bronco.....however, it still isn't as quick as the 5.7 Commander.

Save your money and do what I am, the new ford Ecoboost 3.5 puts out 365 horse and 420 torque with the torgue curve being over 400 for 90% of your RPM band. The engine has undergone the worst torture I have ever seen an engine go through and dyno at the same power it did at day one and in the same weight vehicle they get 24+ MPG. I am looking to sell the 5.7 and dropping in this bad boy on top of all that the 6R80 transmission has a very low first gear. It will make up for our POS 5 speed that never shifts into 5 because you have to be doing 100MPH to hit it with any decent tire size. And if you really want to spend some money you could drop in the ford mytouch and sony HD radio and awsome gauges. Why would you go through the trouble with a jeep and not just buy a Ford? Ford chooses to stay out of the Off road SUV market, the explorer doesn't even have a Transfer case anymore, no for low. Now the question is will the ford ECO's traction control work with a E-locker in the front?

Don't think it's better than a HEMI? take a look at this 3.5 destroy the HEMI

Im confused? Are you thinking of selling the XK and buying a ford with this engine or swapping this engine into your XK?

engine, tans and maybe T case swap, otherwise and adapter to use the NP245 jeep T case with the ford much better transmission. I am still researching if the ford T case is up to par and if the Ford's ECU will control work with our ABS sensor configuration.

Sounds like a lot of work ahead of you. I bet its going to be a nightmare when it comes to the wiring and getting everything to work properly. You would probablly be better off just buying a Ford with that engine.

actually there is a lot of after market interest in ECOBOOST, ford has been working closely with a lot of companies. There is already talk of a plug in play wiring harness.
