Dealer is advising me to purchase this...I don't mind paying for it. I am just wondering if anyone had this done and what it really does.
My oil change is due this week and the oil flush is around $120.
The dealer mentioned that a ticking sound was occurring at idle and the oil flush would correct it.

Thanks!

logan,

The info provided by alopez1334 is very informative.
I generally am more blunt, ie, don't waste your money.
If you have performed maintenance with any regularity there is nothing in the engine to be flushed out anyways.
Sludge is a result of very poor maintenence.....it is the carbon base of the very old worn oil and blow-by gases, also carbon based, adhereing to the cooler non ventilated areas inside the engine.
Just about any engine has some valve train noise and for the most part the overhead cam designs can be heard easier than pushrod designs.
Your O.H.C. 4.7 has its cams and hydralic followers located in the aluminum heads.
The cam chain drives are on the front of the engine and have guides and slack adjusters on the front as well.
All of this, because of location, conspire to make the system more audible than the cam and lifter system in, say, a HEMI, which has its single cam and lifters buried down the center of an iron block.

If you are are referencing the general soft valve click that eminates from a OHC design, no amount of flushing can modify that.
If there were one or two distinct rappers out of the 16, and I am talking a rap that is audible at road speeds, not unlike a cracked manifold, a flush 'may' help, but a cleaning additive mixed in the oil for a full duration oil change would have a better chance.

Try to think like a mechanic....'Thou shalt not mess with things that ain't broke'

BTW, NO manifacturer recommends flushing of engines or transmissions for the reasons given.....it may break something free that wasn't bothering anything.

Good luck,
Rob
