So I lift the bonnet to see if I have everything I need to replace the EGR valve (I don't), and I notice an unplugged hole in the firewall. Perhaps it's always been there. Perhaps not...

Anyone know what's supposed to be there?

I think it is just the grommet for a throttle cable used on the V8 model.

Hmmm as far as I know none of our jeeps have a throttle cable. I don't think mine does and I do have a cable/wire or something coming from that grommet. Just can't remember what it's for. If it wasn't 21 degrees and snowing out I'd go look under my hood

Edit: well after looking under the hood I do have a cable going to the throttle body. Guess I was wrong lol

OK, It is nice and warm here in southern California. So I went out and took pictures. The grommet has a cable coming thru it. It looks like a vacuum line until you follow it across the firewall where is shows that the hose is covering a cable. The cable connects to a butterfly at the top of the mass air intake, (or what I call a throttle body). Now maybe this is not what you consider as a throttle cable, but it definetely controls opening the air intake on the engine.

Here are three pictures. The first is of the cable coming thru the grommet. The second is the end of the cable connected to the intake. The third is a close up. I need to clean my dusty engine.

Hmmn. The local dealership has been all up in my Jeep lately running down electrical issues, and the opening looks clean. Will have to go back next week and ask questions...

Appreciate everyone's feedback.

Huey.. You are right. I just looked at my jeep. I thought our XK's had electronic throttle bodies.
