You wil need the MyGIG unit (they ain't cheap), a Lockpick unit from Coastaletech ( http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG_ADAPTER.htm), and a bezel(the MyGIG is smaller than the REC). You can find answers to most of your questions if you use the Forum search feature.

Yes MyGig is a RER or REN unit.

Aux port would work but bluetooth would need additional parts to work.

Seems like a pain to me, you'd probably need:

MyGig
Lockpick
Install Bezel
AM/FM Antenna Adapter
SIRIUS Antenna Adapter
Microphone (For Bluetooth)

And it may not work with the VES, or at least it wouldn't without some extra wiring.

You'll know it's low speed either by the part number, or by the seller listing it as low speed.

Since he has an REC unit he already has a microphone. It is located in the rear view mirror.

Just because he has a REC Navigation system doesn't mean he has UConnect. If he does have UConnect it's my understanding that using that microphone isn't plug and play with the MyGig unit.

jeep5253 i really appreciate your help.

im wondering if aftermarket wouldnt be easier? i have done aftermarket installs in the past vehicles with no issues.

i searched and found the guy that installed his kenwood double din nav unit but there are no details for the wiring harness used (part numbers). i see he used PAC, i have used scoche in the past.

at least i have the stock nav....which i assume is double din so i wont need another bezel.

are there any other commander aftermarket nav unit install writeups? im just worried ill get a wiring harness thats not compatible? will an aftermaket nav work with the boston acoustics system ? assuming it has amps

His Commander.:ugh2:
That's not how it works at all. The Uconnect is not used when the REC is replaced with a MyGig nav radio, the Bluetooth functionality is built into the radio itself.

Again, as far as I know you have to add an additional microphone because the mic in the mirror is not compatible with the MyGig.

Thank you for your purchase of the Coastal Electronic Technologies, Inc. MYGIG LOCKPICK V.2
ADAPTER. The MYGIG ADAPTER has many features to unlock and allow full use of your MYGIG radio,
plus additional capabilities to allow simple upgrades to your vehicle. This can include:
• The ability to use the navigation system without restrictions including the ability to input addresses,
search points of interest, etc. while in motion.
• You can also enjoy full use and video viewing of the MYGIG DVD player when desired.
• The Lockpick will provide full multimedia audio and video inputs. With the multimedia cable
harness you can plug in your video iPOD, Zune, gaming or computer system and view them on
demand and while in motion.
• The Lockpick interface will automatically or manually turn on the REAR VIEW CAMERA
function of your MYGIG radio for automatic rear views while in reverse. You can also manually
turn on the camera, even in Park or Drive. This works in all applications with automatic and
manual transmissions.
• The Lockpick is Front camera ready and will allow activation manually or it can display the front
camera view automatically. When set for automatic use, the camera will turn on when the vehicle
slows to below 8 mph and turn off when it accelerates above 8 mph for great parking assistance.
• Accessory + 12V power for 2 Cameras are built in to the Lockpick harness. No need to search for
proper power connections.
The MYGIG LOCKPICK will activate Uconnect and Voice modes in NAVIGATION radios.
• The Lockpick will enable the use of an aftermarket Bluetooth handsfree kit in non-nav radios.
• If your vehicle is equipped with an instrument panel EVIC display, the Lockpick will allow the
MYGIG radio to display all operating information including mode, channel number, preset number,
CD track number etc. Also full navigation guidance information is displayed including street name,
distance and turn directions.
• The Lockpick will allow independent volume settings for radio volume, uconnect phone volume and
navigation guidance volume universally in all factory configurations from base model sound systems
to all types of premium sound systems.
• Steering wheel controls are fully supported so you can change modes, presets, stations, CD or hard
drive tracks and volume all from your present steering wheel buttons.

the mygig microphone is only $20. i could swing that. $250 for the lockpick wiring harness sucks though. im debating aftermarket at this time.

That's not just for the harness. It includes the lockpic that let's you do all the cool stuff that you wouldn't otherwise be able to do.

That's exactly what I said, thank you.

And no 20 bucks isn't bad, it's just about knowing what all you're getting yourself into when switching to a MyGig. You can find the MyGig Lockpick a little bit cheaper on eBay.
