U = 1418 Implausible Right Wheel Distance Signal

Found this on another forum:

U1418 implausible right wheel distance signal.
Speed sensor went out on me again. Pulled the code and got a U1418. Thing is, I have over 36k and I do pay for the extended lifetime warranty, BUT, and the dealer wants a $100 deductible for it.

So, I can purchase 4 speed sensors for $50 shipped and do it myself, BUT, how do I know which speed sensor it is. It only says right, but, front or rear?

How do I tell which one it is?

Scratch that, finally went under the JK and found the speed sensor wire loom had a nice gouge and kink on it. Pulled the wires from the loom, low and behold, a cut wire. Guess it flexed enough to sandwich the wire under the bumpstop and pad.

If you have this code come up, check your wiring and connections before purchasing anything. Thank goodness I didn't put the order in.

I just changed my right (passenger) rear wheel speed sensor. ABS, BAS, ESP and traction control lights came on along with the "Service 4WD System" message shortly after hitting a serious pothole. Checked for codes and got U1418, which is a bad right side wheel speed sensor. Funny thing is I hit the pothole on the left (driver's) side. Anyway, the code does not tell you if it is the front or rear. I bought the rear with my fingers crossed because it is the cheapest and easiest to change. I picked up the sensor (Duralast part #SU8585) at Autozone for $14.99.

The sensor is easy to change. The hardest part was getting the sensor out of the hub. You might be able to do it without taking the tire off but I couldn't. It required quite a bit of jiggling and prying with a screw driver. It was in there good.

I got the new sensor in and drove about 10 feet and all the warning lights went out. I lucked out and picked the right one. All good now. Well, except for the water leak when it rains. That's the next project.
