The HiLift jacks are not that expensive anyway. Could not be much difference in price buying them at Harbor Freight. Lots of people use a HiLift to jack there Jeep up real high and them just push them sideways off the jack to get a different position joing thru rocks.

How would you use a hi-jack on the XK anyways. Its nothing but plastic all the way around. I could see if you had rock sliders or custom bumpers.

Most people who have issues with HI lift or any jack like them, dont know how to you them. they are all dangerous, and are usualy being used in very adverse conditions and situations. I have used them hundreds of times. I have used HI-life and the generic Farm jacks. they all can tip over and all have issue with the mechanical parts.

as far as the ones listed on this thread..they are about the same price as the HI lift brand if you got to tractor supply. You can get one for 70-80 buks.

Many people do not know of the other uses for the HiLift jack. You can use them like a poor man's winch or a come-along with a strap or better a chain. You can also use them as a press or as a clamp by putting something that needs to be squeezed between two clamps. There is also an attachment that lets you hook under the frame and lift the vehicle that way. As I mentioned before one of the most dangerous things about the HiLift is that it can fall over or you can push it over pretty easily.

Hi-Lift Jack Off-Road Base (ORB) $35

Increase the utility of your Hi-Lift Jack on soft surfaces with the Hi-Lift Jack Off-Road Base. The Off-Road Base widens the footprint of the Hi-Lift Jack and prevents it from sinking in soft ground conditions like sand or mud. The Off-Road Base is rated to the limits of the Hi-Lift Jack; if the Hi-Lift Jack can take the load then so can the Off-Road Base. Just as with the Fix-It Kit, we believe that every Hi-Lift Jack user should have an Off-Road Base with his other recovery gear.

Guys have also used the jack to clamp parts back together to weld them using a battery and jumper cables and a welding rod. Phunkeydude used the mounting bolts from his HiLift to put his ball joint back to gether along with duck tape and a coat hanger.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I think I will opt for the "real" HiLift at Amazon for $71 bucks.

i have one on my commander. i have never used it. its just dead weight. i have places on all 4 corners to use a highlift jack, but i do not like them. i almost lost all my teeth once using one with my toyota truck to get the axle off a boulder.

now that i have a winch i just use it. its easier and quicker. i use my winch to get me unstuck. i use my bottle jack to change tires.

i don't see how you could use a hilift on a stock commander anyway.
