Rear VES not working

Hello to all,

I recently purchased a 2008 Commander Limited. When I drove it home from the dealership the rear VES worked fine. The other day my daughter wanted to watch a movie in the back but my VES would not turn on. I went to the menu on the navigation screen but the thumbnail for the VES is not even lit up. On the menu screen it says VES off so I try to push VES on but it will not allow me to turn it on. Is there a fuse for the rear VES? I am thinking it is a blown fuse, please help me with this issue as I have tried everything. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Brian

Hello everyone, this problem with the VES is common to all 2008 and newer Chrysler products. I have repaired these monitors on Town and Countrys, Grand Caravans, Routans, Aspens, and Grand Cherokees.
The problem is the ribbon cable connecting the monitor screen to the monitor base. Chrysler wants $800-$1100 to replace the monitor screen. I replace the cable, it takes about an hour, and cost is only $25.

This is where to get the cables:

I've got same issue on my 2006 Commander Limited, purchased new. The VES has been used only once, about 4 yrs ago. Recently tried to operate it for the grandkids and got a dark screen. No idea how long it's been inoperable. Any suggestions other than replacing monitor?

You should have a warranty from the dealership, even on a Used car that is out of the normal Manufacturers Warranty. In New York, it's 30, 60 or 90 Days depending upon the milage of the vehicle.
I would check with them.

I see this is a very old post, but as a new owner of a similar ‘08 Overland, I can’t make the DVD video appear on the rear screen. I can see the menu options on it when using the remote, but no other picture. I can make the “channels” (1 and 2) also show up, as long as a disc is not inserted into the DVD player up front. But as soon as I insert a dvd, the rear screen goes blank. What’s the deal with this? A ribbon problem as well?
