Transmission Swap

Hi Everyone!

I have a 2010 LTD with the 4.6, which we really love. Has anyone considered (if it's even possible) changing the transmission to the new 2014 8 speed for the Grand Cherokee?

I don't know if the bell housing will match up or if you can get a controller for it, but If the experts here say it can be done, I'd be interested in the swap.

I believe it would greatly improve drivability (better shift points), and increased mileage as well.

I would also like to see the difference in the weight between the different models 3.7/4.7/5.7 and and the deisel for the XK's and the XH's.

I don't know if it will fit but I think that you would be disappointed with the mpg after the swap. Not worth the effort and money.

Of course anything is possible, but this is not an easy swap. The newer transmission uses a flex plate while the '55 has the TC bolted directly to the crank. This swap adds another gear but the top ratio is still 1:1 so the advantage is really minimal and not worth the hassle.
