Recently on the forum there have been questions concerning the different 4wheel drive systems and how they work. This is thoroughly explained on the Jeep website. Click on this link http://www.jeep.com/en/4x4/how_systems_work/
Sure, but black coffee can be changed by adding a few drops of milk or sugar or whatever else you want to put in it. I agree that variety can be important with stuff like that because it's actually personal taste (literally), but when it comes to buying a 4wd vehicle, offering so many different systems just can't be the best idea from a profitability standpoint. Besides, I really doubt there is much of a real price difference when it comes to manufacturing the different systems. Sure, the QDII is most likely the most expensive system to manufacture, but if they were to get rid of the other systems and only equip the vehicle with QDII, they cost savings from the elimination of the other systems might even cancel out the extra costs of putting QDII on every 4wd Commander. Plus, they'd probably have even more leverage with the parts suppliers for the QDII components because they'd sell more of them.A business needs customers. They need products they can market to customers. Not all customers are alike nor do they think alike or value the same things for reasons others have stated. Nor can all customers afford the same things even if they wanted the same things, which they don't.
Just because it doesn't make sense to you or to me, doesn't mean that it doesn't make sense.
Why doesn't everyone drink regular black coffee? I like it. It sure would make the lines move quicker at Starbucks.
Had to jump in on this one, just because others don't do it does not mean it should not be done. Most people who buy Jeeps want to go off road, they just do it in different ways and therefore need different systems. Others manufacturers do not have as many systems because consumers do not buy a Buick, Honda or Toyota as an off road vehicle (they might do it, but that is not their main purpose, Jeep was made to go off road). JMHO!If having four different available 4wd systems on a single vehicle is a good idea, why don't any other manufacturers follow suit?
Because full-time 4WD and all-wheel drive are two different things.hate to say it again but, I just got my Commansder the other day. I have never had a 4WD that didn't have a separate shifter or button to shift in and out of 4WD. Until now. LOL! Is the commander full time 4WD? If so, why don't they just call it "all wheel drive"? What is the + and - signs on the shifter box? Is this a "manu matic" type of transmission?
Yes, you can shift manually. What is the + and - signs on the shifter box? Is this a "manu matic" type of transmission?
I think Jeep5253 pretty much answered your questions, they are discussed in more detail in this thread where your question was moved too (Jeep5253 started this thread).hate to say it again but, I just got my Commansder the other day.
